Logging meals
How do I log a meal?
Tap the microphone and say it — “grilled chicken, rice and a salad”. Or tap the camera and photograph the plate. Besly returns a card with foods, portions, calories and macros; tap Save. Typing works too.
The calories look wrong — how do I fix them?
Just tell it: “make the salmon 200 g”, “that was two slices, not four”. The card updates in place. You can also tap the card to edit any line by hand.
Can I scan barcodes?
Yes. Use the barcode button when adding food. If a product isn't in the database, Besly logs what it can read and flags what it couldn't.
What about my own recipes?
Save any combination as your own recipe once; after that you can log it by name — the AI recognises it in your sentence.
Does photo logging work for restaurant food?
Usually. Portions are the hard part, so the AI errs towards typical serving sizes and tells you when it's a guess. Correct it out loud and the entry is fixed.
Calories & targets
How is my daily target calculated?
Your basal rate comes from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (age, height, weight, sex). That's multiplied by an activity factor, then your weekly pace sets the deficit or surplus. Details and citations: science page.
Why does my target change during the day?
Because you moved. Steps and workouts from Apple Health raise the target as they arrive — the day you walk 15,000 steps, you get to eat more.
How do I change my goal or pace?
Profile → My goals. Change the goal weight, the weekly pace, activity level, steps or water. “Refresh plan” walks you through the whole setup again.
What are cheat days?
Pick the days you eat more freely and a level (light, medium, full). Those days get a higher target; the rest of the week is trimmed so the weekly total — and your goal — stays the same.
Diets & adherence
Which diets are supported?
Mediterranean, clean eating, high-protein, low-carb, plant-based, pescatarian, flexitarian and more — plus your own custom rules. Each diet shows what it's for and who it fits.
How does weekly adherence work?
Besly classifies what you log into food groups and counts them against the diet's weekly targets — sweets, sugary drinks, processed meat, vegetables and so on. The thresholds come from published scores, cited in the app.
Can I build my own diet?
Yes. Diets → build your own: choose the groups you want to limit or hit, and Besly counts them the same way.
Weekly plan & grocery list
How does the weekly plan work?
Answer a short setup — how many days, which meals, cooking time, budget, how the table is set — and Besly builds the week from recipes that fit your diet and target. Portions are scaled to your calories in half steps.
Can I swap a meal I don't like?
Yes, every meal has a swap button. The replacement respects the same rules, so the day stays balanced.
What is “convert for shopping”?
Recipe amounts are precise (“795 g tomatoes”); shops aren't. The AI converts the list into buyable quantities — “1 kg tomatoes”, “1 bunch parsley” — and groups everything by aisle.
The AI coach
What does the coach actually know?
Your logged meals, weights, workouts, steps, sleep and recovery, your goal and your diet — plus what you told it in earlier chats. Numbers in its answers come from your data, not from guesswork.
What are coach focuses?
Balanced, Kitchen Chef, Training & Recovery, Diet Discipline. The focus changes tone, depth, opening suggestions and what the notifications talk about — the data used is the same.
Is this medical advice?
No. Besly provides general information and estimates only, and is not a medical device. Consult a doctor or registered dietitian for health decisions.
Account & data
Do I need an account?
Yes — an account keeps your data backed up and lets your plan follow you to a new phone. Sign in with Apple or Google; you can link a Gmail address later for the weekly email report.
How do I move to a new phone?
Install Besly, sign in with the same account at the welcome screen and your history, plan and diet come back.
How do I delete my data or my account?
Settings → Account → Reset. “Reset data” clears your logs everywhere; “Delete account” removes the account and all of its data. Both are permanent.
How is my health data used?
Apple Health data is read with your permission to compute your targets and the coach's context. Besly never writes to Health and never sells your data. Full detail in the privacy policy.
Still stuck? Email support@besly.co. If it's a bug, Settings → Help → Diagnostics can upload logs anonymously first — that usually saves a round trip.
